Well, kinda. He is like a kid who knows what candy is, but doesn’t quite know what to do with it.
The storied affair of the precocious song-meister and paradoxically sexy girl next door hit the tabloids in May of 2008 only to be declared D.O.A. in September and now rumored to be back on again. And now with Americans reeling from the ups and downs of the pre-Halloween stock market, Jen and John are supposed to be back together again. It is beginning to look more and more like a hapless dance of the young, without the saving grace of insight and wisdom.
Jennifer will be fine when the dust settles, but not so John. One of these not-so-fine days he will wake up and kick himself in the shin for letting an incandescent soul-mate slip through his fingers. It happens once in a lifetime, or twice if one is lucky. To his credit, John did let on about his awareness of Jennifer’s charms. He is not as autistic as he comes across at times. His choice of Jessica Simpson was certifiably clueless and his attempts at breaking the news of his break-up with Jennifer, irreducibly cloddish.
Its tough thinking straight when you have hordes of half-naked groupies trying to jump into your bed. Well, not those kinds of groupies exactly, but the ones that appear to be sane and fully clothed. But life is a bitch, especially through the rear view mirror of experience.
If you know John, send him this note. He will thank you one of these days for it.
