The picture quality is negligible but the salacious intent is unmistakable. The nubile woman in the five pics originally published on imagehaven.net seems to be on a mission to tittilate ; advertently or inadvertently. In an internet awash with porn, these pictures should have hardly made any waves, but the fact that they could be those of none other than Rihanna a.k.a. Robyn Fenty of Umbrella fame, changes everything. (Under implied threat of litigation the pictures have become peripatetic but Google usually usually locates the latest sites hosting them.)
The pictures range from a near-full frontal nude shot with a hand fig-leaf, to a bent-over butt shot showing a bit of hairy muff. The two additional head shots of Rihanna in the collection, appear to have a different tonality and background when compared with the nude pics. Ironically, the home-made graininess lends the pictures a wallop of authenticity that is often lacking in glossed-out smut. It doesn’t help matters that the pictures appear to be anatomically correct, i.e. in terms of waist, boob and body ratios; or that Rihanna’s record company, Island Def Jam, has warned “offending” websites to take down the pictures without necessarily denying or conceding anything as to their authenticity. Sounds familiar? Hold on. The company’s legal department claims that the pictures are a violation of Rihanna’s rights as an artist. The implied threat of prosecution is unmistakable.
Not to be outdone, Chris Brown’s legal representative has meanwhile fired a warning shot across the media bow while denying Chris’ involvement in the photo scandal.The suggestions that Chris is involved in this is both “false and defamatory” says the company representative who was talking to Essence magazine.
The Plot Soup Thickens: The real story story behind the story is, who could possibly be behind all this. Forget the issue of authenticity for a moment. The simplest explanation may hold water here. And the simplest explanation automatically eliminates Rihanna for obvious reasons. This leaves just a couple of credible suspects in the room. Yes, suspects that can be counted on just two fingers of one hand. And you do not need to be a brain surgeon to land yourself in the neighborhood of truth here. We will leave it at that.
Allegations that the woman in the pics is Rihanna: At this point the allegations are just that; allegations. The pics, while possibly believable could be a clever dupe not unlike the first picture that was said to be depicting Rihanna’s bruises. While we think that the pictures are probably of Rihanna, they could also be of a young woman who is a dead-ringer for the Umbrella chanteuse. The two extra facial pics in the collection have no pictorial or graphic connection to the five nude photos on display at imagehaven. Rihanna’s numerous tattoos are not visible in any of the shots. But then who would really know, except Rihanna herself. Remember the pictures of Oscar Delahoya as a drag queen in a fishnet stocking? Some people would swear by the pictures’ authenticity.
Be that as it may, the existence of webpages like these certainly send out a buyer beware message. People can fabricate almost anything these days.
If the photos are genuine, the question of the day is who put them out there and why? (Remember the virtue of the simpler explanation.) They certainly do not reveal anything earth-shaking beyond the fact that she has a nice pair of nalgas, them be-ringed chichis notwithstanding. Well, no news there. The German magazine FHM was the first to come out with an artsy nude spread of the Umbrella chanteuse.
The other side mystery surrounding this alleged expose, is who the man in a rumored the second set of nude pics could be. Can you say kinky? Altogether now ….

The public reaction has generally been condemnatory of the pics and the possible motives behind their leaking. But there is an ambivalence that can be traced to Rihanna’s puzzling actions in the aftermath of the alleged beating by Chris Brown. These pictures may play into the skank images that wanna-be-thugs and detractors have tried to paint of her. Reactions from the Barbados Free Press have been heated …. and interesting. (Rihanna is a Barbados native and the sentiment runs deep here.)
If the nude pics turned out to be genuine, this would be the second time Rihanna had been victimized by someone with full collusion of the press and the blogosphere. The first time involved the leaked shots of her battered face from the LAPD photo vaults. As in Michael Jackson’s Thriller, the uglies just keep comin’ out.
